The , commonly known as the Sagrada Família, is a large Roman Catholic church in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí (1852–1926). Although incomplete, the church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and in November 2010 was consecrated and proclaimed a minor basilica (...) (from Wikipedia).
From a distance you might be able to convince yourself that this is another ordinary cathedral. The closer you get however, the more unusual this project of Gaudí’s appears. Stone drips over the figures like candle wax spilling out at the base of a flame. Scaffolding is almost guaranteed (Gaudí died before his plans could be completed and controversy and construction remain on the agenda for at least the next 20 years.) Yet, the Sagrada Família (meaning Holy Family) manages to impress even those who don’t normally like cathedrals. And for those with a head for heights, a climb into the delicate, latticed towers gives an even better view of the cathedral and the rest of the city.
Address; Calle Mallorca, 401, 08013 Barcelona.
