The Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos (Spanish for 'Alcázar of the Christian Monarchs'), also known as the Alcázar of Córdoba, is a medieval Alcázar located in Córdoba, Spain next to the Guadalquivir River and near the Mezquita (...) (from Wikipedia).
Palace of Christian Monarchs – the Alcázar on banks of the Guadalquivir River is an example of military architecture at its best. In its present form, it was built in 1328 by Alfonso XI. It was from here that Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand of Spain sent Christopher Columbus on his journey in which he discovered America. The palace also served as the headquarters of the Spanish Inquisition for 300 years. The first royal palace in this site was built by the Muslims.Nowadays, the most beautiful part of the site is the impressive gardens, with their balconies, ponds and fountains. In the summer, the Alcázar gardens are considered the most pleasant place in the city. The center of this site is the Moorish garden – Patio Morisco. The garden is built around two beautiful ponds, and a cave completely covered by climbing plants.
