The Musée du Louvre , or officially Grand Louvre — in English the Louvre Museum or simply the Louvre — is one of the world's largest museums, the most visited art museum in the world and a historic monument. It is a central landmark of Paris and located on the Right Bank of the Seine in the 1st (...) (from Wikipedia).
It’s hard to imagine the sheer size of the Louvre before you visit it. The Louvre started life as a fortress, before becoming a sprawling Renaissance palace and finally a museum. The addition of Pei’s glass pyramid caused a scandal when it was added in the 1980s, although since then, Paris has learned to love its unusual design.
A visit to the Louvre can become overwhelming. There are far, far too many pieces of work to see, from Italian paintings, to Egyptian, Greek and Etruscan relics plus plenty more. Even queuing to get in can be tiring –but it is worth it.
Address: Palais-Royal, 75001, Paris‎.
