Diocletian's Palace is a building in Split, Croatia, that was built by the Roman emperor Diocletian at the turn of the fourth century AD. Diocletian built the massive palace in preparation for his retirement on 1 May 305 AD (...) (from Wikipedia).
No other city is founded around a 1,700 year old Roman palace, built by Emperor Diocletian as his lavish retirement home. This living museum is awash with churches, temples, and little squares, not to mention fashion boutiques and myriad places to eat and drink like an emperor.
