Explore on foot, quad, or mountain bike. Vanilla plantations, beaches, chameleons. The nearest good beach is Navana, a 30-min boat ride from town, which has a backdrop of virgin rainforest. Masoloa NP has rainforest, coastal forest, flooded forest, marsh, and mangrove, marine parks and coral reefs, 10 lemur species including the Red Ruffed Lemur. The island reserve of Nosy Mangabe has the nocturnal Aye-aye. From Maroantsetra, you can get there by motor boat. Bush taxis run from Antalaha, and you can get there by mountain bike from the village of Masoala. The main camping trails are Nosy Mangabe, Tampolo/Ambodiforaha, Cap Est, and a several day hike across the peninsula. All visits must be accompanied by an official park-approved guide.
