Monpazier is a commune in the Dordogne department in Aquitaine in southwest France. Its inhabitants are called Monpaziérois(es). Monpazier is an ancient bastide town from the 13th century. It was home to Eleanor of Aquitaine and Richard II of England for a time (...) (from Wikipedia).
The tiny bastide of Monpazier was built, surprisingly, by King Edward I of England and maintains its medieval charm to this day.

Day 1 Let go of the maps and the guidebooks and drift through the narrow alleyways and cobbled streets of the medieval part of Monpazier. The only place you should focus on finding is the Place des Cornières (which should be easy!) After lunch in one of the many excellent restaurants in the central square, drive on to Rocamadour.
