Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer (lit. 'Saint Marys of the Sea', Provençal Occitan Lei Santei Marias de la Mar) is the capital of the Camargue (Provençal Occitan Camarga) in the south of France. It is a commune in the Bouches-du-Rhône department by the Mediterranean Sea (...) (from Wikipedia).

This small seaside town carries a hint of Spanish tradition and architecture. It bridges the point between the wetlands of the Camargue and the sea.

Day 1 Use Les-Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer as a base for driving and walking around the Camargue Wetlands. Drive to the Salin-de-Giraud viewpoint if you missed it the evening before to get a spectacular view of the salt mountains before driving to Arles.
